On the 10th death anniversary of Bernie Ahlers, in April, this year, we celebrate his unique qualities, honour his life, and reflect on the achievements of his partnership with the CCLK. Mr. Ahlers was laid to rest on April 25, 2015.

Bernie was the founder of Gambia Aid Foundation, registered in the Netherlands. With funding from various organizations and individuals in Holland, Luxemburg, Belgium and Germany, including the Rotary Club of Holland, his charity (GAF) was able to support communities in The Gambia. - Meeting minutes January 20, 2010.

The partnership with the CCLK was to compliment the scholarship program, started in 1998, that helped many poor students develop their careers and professions, and secure stable jobs providing decent standard of living

At the first meeting, held at Ali Baba Restaurant, Senegambia, on January 20, 2010, the parties expressed their commitment to work together, and emphasized the importance of building a school in the community, where the children will develop a strong foundation, and prepare well for the next stages of their career and professional development.

The new partnership aimed to further strengthen the scholarship program, empower young people, and increase their chances of getting stable and good paying jobs. Through the program, many have been able to cater for their financial needs, and the cost of living with their parents and siblings.
